- An r/anime discussion about why Funimation’s market for anime is firmly under 25. Do you agree that anime fans tend to prioritize other spending as they grow older?
- When anime fans do spend money, here’s some research Rob Pereyda did on where they spend it. I pay for Crunchyroll and Funimation myself.
- When I talked about my new business, I mentioned my co-founder, Aja Romano, is a journalist, but I didn’t share any of her fandom-centric work. Recently she’s written about Japanese English textbook illustration Ellen Baker and an article about why the broadway hit Hamilton is fanfiction.
- Nine things about the Tokyo subway that will drive Washington commuters crazy. I commute to an office four days a week, and there’s no time I miss Japan more than when I’m crammed into a dirty, malfunctioning metro car.
- This season, I’ve scaled back a bit and I’m reviewing just two weekly shows for Anime News Network: Ushio & Tora and Ace Attorney. I’m also reviewing some new Gundam BD/DVD releases, so watch for those.
Not a lot of links this week, so here’s my obligatory reminder to submit cool links, ideally from your own blog, because I love to promote my readers.

I’ve actually been increasing the amount of anime I watch, however I am single and with no children so I have much more time to myself. I only own two pieces of merchandise. Well, one is unofficial, the other is official. I buy some DVDs when I have the money. I use Crunchyroll for streaming and pay my membership up front once a year.
I’m not familiar with the DC subway but I have spent time on the NYC subway system. The Tokyo system looks like a dream in comparison.
