Otaku Links: Winds of change

  • Patrick Macias teamed up with artist Hiroyuki Takahashi to create Crunchyroll’s first exclusive original webcomic, HYPERSONIC music club. The art is stunning and I’m glad this will be free for all users, not just premium members.
  • Got 30 minutes? Use it to learn 200 popular phrases in anime and manga. This slideshow includes both hiragana and romanji so you’re set no matter what level of Japanese mastery you’re at.

  • Supplement article for Yumeka’s post (which I read before), though more marketing-ish: http://blog.reflectivedynamics.com/2015/01/29/how-to-create-unique-content-for-any-website/

I actually do wonder how much Japan needs to be reminded that America loves anime. Then again, anime may not be as popular as most people think. I got reminded of this when reading Kiss Him, Not Me when the main character outed herself as an otaku and one of her reverse harem goes “Oh, anime like Eva?”

    • @MangaTherapy:disqus this guy has some good points but it weirds me out that his blog is so boring! He should take his own advice and give the blog a compelling design. I’m so glad you’re also reading Kiss Him, Not Me. I think it’s hilarious!

      • That guy has like 6 blogs to write for. :P That isn’t his main blog actually.

        MUTSUMIIIII-SENPAAIIIII~

        • @MangaTherapy:disqus well I don’t like any of his blogs, probably. Not even ONE single photo of an anime character on them. How does he expect people to read this crap?

My favorite is the shota ARE YOU SURPRISED

  • Great links! I have a few about the state of the industry to send you. I am currently reading a detailed academic paper on manga and anime transnational distribution. I keep trying to remember ‘seisakuiinkai’ when talking about the publication with people.

I continue to run into conflicting reports/speculation about the level of impact piracy has/had on the industry in North America and Western Europe. There is solid evidence relating to piracy in China and Korea limiting distribution of Japanese media products in those countries though. But there does not appear to be any smoking gun for this part of the world that I can really find.

    • @disqus_kVvzChmZjW:disqus you always have amazing links! You should write an ebook because it’s getting to the point where your knowledge will either fill that or a multi-multi-part blog post. I should have hat tipped you here, or really just on the footer of my blog since you send me so many links!
