Otaku Links: That special feeling

specialfeeling

  • Perhaps it’s because today is Valentine’s Day, but I cannot get enough of the “special feeling” meme from Japan. Basically, a reporter interviewed a man about his favorite part about the recent snowfall, and he said something about spending time with a loved one, embarrassing his girlfriend. Now people are drawing fan art of anime couples reenacting the moment. Crunchyroll News has collected the best 100 or so.
  • Luggage designed just for cosplayers! This suitcase has spots specifically made for unwieldy props and delicate, handmade garments. It’s a Japanese crowdfunding project, but the English writeup is here.
  • An oldie but goodie from TheSubtleDoctor’s blog: The Slap. An analysis of one of every Mobile Suit Gundam fan’s favorite moments.
  • Side note, since I don’t have a lot of links this week due to book writing: which anime are you watching this season? I am watching Gundam Build Fighters on YouTube, and Kill La KillEngaged to the Unidentified, Kuroko no Basket, Sakura Trick, and Nisekoi all on Crunchy. Though I’m almost definitely dropping those last three. Not a very strong season in my opinion.
  • Finally, who’s going to Katsucon 20 this weekend? I’ll be there all day on Saturday, probably in cat ears like these. See you there!

  • I *loved* some of those meme images people came up with that were on that Cruncyroll post. Some of them were quite inspired. Thank you for pointing it out.

I haven’t checked out those last three titles you mentioned but, since you are dropping them, I’ll probably put them way down my “to check out” list. Good to know since I’ve already broken my new years resolution of dropping series I don’t like. I just keep hanging in there and then get mad at myself for wasting viewing time on something that never grabbed/satisfied me.

I watched an… Interesting anime movie last night. First Squad. It’s short, just an hour. It was actually written in Russian and has only Russian and English vocals. The animation was done in Japan though. It was an interesting concept, but was too rushed since it was only an hour. Still not sure what I think of it. I need to reflect upon it more.

Otherwise, I’m keeping up on Kill La Kill and thinking of re-watching Angel Beats as I enjoyed it, though it was too rushed. Should have been 26 rather than 13 episodes.

So, not watching much currently. Spending more time writing recently.

    • @Zoe, did I say I was dropping Kuroko no Basket? Because I’ve kind of watched 5 episodes in two days. So… maybe not. It’s like Free! with the sports and teamwork and minus the fanservice.

I will have to check out First Squad. Have not even heard of it! Excited to see what you’ve been working on writing though. Guest posts for me in the future, maybe?

      • Now that’s an idea, Lauren!

Hmmm… Okay, I’ll keep Kuroko no Basket up on my list of shows to watch. I’m typically not a fan of sports’ themed anime, but I thought I’d give this one a shot.

  • Actually, this “special feeling” is a parody of an interview of a Japanese couple when Japan had record snowfall on February 14th and 15th. Although the snow suffered many people, the couple said, “I like the snow because it makes us special feeling.” You can see the screenshot of the interview here.
