- I love hearing stories about young journalists with big goals. Here’s how one determined student got her dream internship at Fast Company.
- Tony of Manga Therapy wrote about how he believes anime is bigger than it’s ever been before, but still not part of accepted popular culture.
- Did you guys realize they made a Free! mini movie? It’s adorable.
- If you’ve heard a lot about this Attack on Titan anime and you’re not sure what to make of it, Aja’s got you covered with this explainer.
- I am reading Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell and I cannot put it down. It’s crazy how spot-on she is about fanfic community and culture.
- Asking a person—any person—to prove their geek cred is stupid. Jennifer Landa drives that point home in her satirical Comic Con coverage.
- I joined writers Ellie Di and Miss Dirt on their podcast Write Against The Machine to talk about otaku journalism, freelancing, and fear. Listen here.

I so, so enjoyed that video by Jennifer Landa.
Also grateful for Aja’s ‘Attack on Titan’ introduction as I intend to start watching the series on Cruncyroll.
On the Tony of Manga Therapy article:
It has an interesting angle, but it’s a very narrow angle with pointed advise — “To anyone who wants to make a great impact in the anime and manga industries and doesn’t live in Japan, be extremely cautious and plan carefully.”
What I don’t like about this article–
1) He cites Colony Drop, a group of misogynistic guys who though appear to be stuck in a rebellious phase (eh, whatever floats your boat), explore conspiracy theories or just “hype” gossip. There’s very little to no solidity in their reporting. I would not cite them for any evidentiary support.
2)While there has been a plunge in the US Manga market, there has been a simultaneous one in Japan. There’s more information to know than what he represents through his article.
Check out these two articles from ANN for more info:

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/house-of-1000-manga/2013-03-21
3)Commentary such as “…that cosplay is becoming fashion. Really? Then how come I don’t see…” has a personal angle on it, and I would suggest looking for oneself. If we implied fact by what one person witnesses, then we wouldn’t have very substantial information.
What everyone should listen to in this article–
In the end, he offers good advise. Entering this industry, plan to work hard, either rule your niche or be practical/realistic. I wrote out the negative factors first, because I think they take away from him advise in the end. Stay open minded, be resourceful, network, but remain grounded in realism and know how to navigate through your limits to reach what you want.
